Worth knowing: For a hotel that markets itself as a luxury property and charges luxury prices, Shilla Stay Plus was seriously below par. In reality, it feels much more like a basic business hotel than a luxury resort. There are no bellboys and no room service, which is incredibly disappointing at this price point. If you want food, you essentially have to leave your room and get it yourself. That may be acceptable for a standard business hotel, but it certainly doesn’t meet what I would expect from somewhere charging premium rates and presenting itself as luxury. The cleanliness was another major concern. The pool water appeared filthy, with rocks and algae visibly present, and after my young daughter spent less than an hour swimming, she developed an ear infection. The condition of the pool was concerning enough to make us question its hygiene. Our bathroom was also covered in mould, including around the sink, while the lights and fans were visibly covered in dust. For a hotel that is relatively new, this level of cleanliness and maintenance is extremely poor. The beds were so hard and pillows were thin. The hallways are also uncomfortably hot and stuffy, particularly when waiting for the lifts. Again, this is not what you expect when paying luxury hotel prices. The hotel did compensate us for one night's stay, which we appreciated. However, the handling of our stay afterwards was incredibly distressing. The night manager had confirmed that our check-in for the following night would remain as planned, yet the next day reception repeatedly called us, every couple of hours, asking us to leave or telling us to follow up with Booking.com. This was not our fault, and we should not have been put in the position of constantly having to deal with their booking issues after we had already been given confirmation by their own night manager. Having to repeatedly receive calls asking us to leave was extremely stressful, particularly when we were travelling with our young daughter.
