“We absolutely loved the location, the attention to detail of art & design. The dog run on the fourth floor was also very clean and such a perk to have. The restaurant was delicious, although overpriced.”
Worth knowing: The Valet is your first and last experience of a hotel, and we didn't have the best experience coming or going. Albeit we arrived around 10 PM, the valet was not busy and made no attempt to acknowledge us or help us until we had already started heading to the door with our bags. We were only asked if we were checking in and given a tag and with full hands struggled getting the door open when they could've very easily helped us at least in the front door. This was disappointing given the expectations of luxury hotel. Upon leaving the couple in front of us was helped out with their bags and asked about their stay. We walked out on our own and completely loaded up our car ourselves while the Valet watched us loading the car from the driver side door. There was plenty of staff available to help. We were greeted by the front desk and checked in, however given a room that was different than what was advertised. Luckily, they were able to find a room and relocate us. Second, the traffic noise was extremely loud, which we knew going into it given a lot of reviews mentioned it, however it went on until around 2 AM and could even be heard through earplugs. Neither one of us were able to get a full night sleep all three nights. The hotel also makes no effort to acknowledge the noise, offer solutions, or earplugs. Lastly, the building is old, and although common areas seem to be spotless the first room we were put in that we did not stay in had visible stains on the carpet and stuff on the walls. The room we ended up in was better however, the couch definitely seemed worn and trash was missed in a couple of spots by house gaming along with rings from drinks left in the bathroom and a toilet area. Not that big of a deal but makes you wonder how clean the room actually was. The value did not match the price.

“Bad experience at the Shinola Hotel. Our room as well as another family members room was unkept, dirty, and pretty dusty. While I was told that upper Management would contact me to try to make things right, they never did. My experience was not a good one, and I can only outline my experience. We couldn’t get housekeeping to clean the room for nearly two days. I definitely would not recommend this hotel especially since Management does not appear to be concerned. Thank you. LM”

“Being a native of Detroit since the 1960s, we had followed the rebirth of the Shinola brand. We had also followed the construction of the hotel and were very curious to stay. We could not be more impressed with every aspect of this place. From the moment we checked in to our check out, we just felt that this place is very special and treated us as valued guests. We will be back the next time we are in the "D"!”
