“The Haywood is very conveniently located within walking distance of numerous restaurants, the Woolworth Walk, Malaprop's Bookstore, and many other sites. It is also a stop on the hop-on hop-off trolley that offers a tour of key sites in Asheville. The hotel itself is distinctive, because it was for many decades a department store. Each floor has a lobby with mannequins and other artifacts of the building's original function. The king suites are palatial in size; the double queens are more conventional. Each room has a mini-fridge and Keurig machine. The beds were comfortable and the rooms quiet. Parking is valet-only, at $22/night. The valets were very personable and helpful.”
Worth knowing: The king suite that a friend had was freezing when we arrived (in mid August); the staff had to bring a small heater. The Keurig machine didn't work. (The one in my room did!) I had a double queen room. There was no towel bar in the bathroom (though I could see where there had been one), only a small hook next to the vanity. I requested a replacement towel bar, but it did not appear over the next 2 days. The only way to hang bath towels was to fling them over the shower stall door.
