In June 2024, Italy brought the G7 to the olive groves of Puglia, and two neighboring resorts on the Adriatic coast hosted the world's leaders.
Masseria San Domenico
A masseria is a fortified Puglian farmhouse, and San Domenico is one of the most celebrated, a whitewashed estate among ancient olive trees close to the sea. President Joe Biden stayed here for the 2024 G7, returning each night after the day's sessions. The resort's San Domenico golf course was the setting for a skydiving demonstration and a group photo of the leaders. Guests come for the seawater pool, the spa, and slow Puglian lunches.
Borgo Egnazia
Next door, Borgo Egnazia, a resort built in the style of a traditional Puglian village, hosted the summit itself. Over two days, President Biden joined Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the other leaders in working sessions there, including a session with Pope Francis on artificial intelligence and energy, and an evening reception featuring a performance by Andrea Bocelli.
